The Board of Commissioners of the City of
Anthony, Kansas met in adjourned session at 9:00 a.m. with Mayor Barbara Muse
presiding and the following Commissioners present: Hall, Tedder, Hammersmith,
and Dickey. Absent: None. Also present were Don Heidrick, City
Clerk/Administrator; Grant K. Sechler, Jr., City Superintendent; Donna Crowe,
Kenny Hodson, Rose Mary Saunders, and Dennis Cook.
PUBLIC HEARING – URGENT NEED GRANT
Mayor Muse opened the Public Hearing. Rose Mary Saunders of Ranson Financial Consultants gave a summary of the Grant Application process. Asbestos Removal Proposals have been requested. The Bids are due next Friday, August 28th. Health Officer for Harper County needs to certify the fire debris site as a Health Nuisance and needs to be abated.
Dennis Cook, Structural Engineer for the fire site gave a summary of his report and the condition of the remaining structures and walls as a result of the fire and what needs to be done during the demolition process and after.
The structures on each side of the fire site need to be people evacuated during the demolition.
RESOLUTION NO. 745
A RESOLUTION CERTIFYING LEGAL AUTHORITY TO APPLY FOR THE 2009 KANSAS SMALL CITIES COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM FROM THE KANSAS DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SIGN AND SUBMIT SUCH AN APPLICATION.
Commissioner Tedder made the motion that the City Commission adopts Resolution No. 745. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Hall. Motion carried.
WORK SESSION REQUEST
Donna Crowe reported interested business owners wanted to have a Work Session to discuss the future of downtown. The Commission decided on having a Work Session August 27th at 6:00 p.m.
Mayor Muse made the motion that the City Commission meeting be adjourned. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Dickey. Motion carried.
