In August of 2000, the City
of Anthony was awarded a Downtown Revitalization Grant through the
Kansas Department of Commerce & Housing, for $68,600.
With this grant, the City of Anthony was able to establish a
revolving loan fund for the downtown businesses that are within the
Designated Downtown District. The
revolving loan money is available to eligible applicants to assist in a
comprehensive downtown revitalization approach.
The downtown improvements are to strengthen the economic climate,
create a more attractive environment, and enhance the function of the
business district.
The program requires a
designated downtown manager, which Donna Crowe with the City of Anthony,
has been appointed by the City Commission.
Architectural design guidelines have been developed for the
downtown district, incorporating historic preservation.
The design guidelines must be consistent with the Secretary of
interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation and Guidelines for
Rehabilitating Historic Buildings.
These guidelines have to be met if federal money is used.
This project is to encourage building owners/renters to preserve
their buildings, not discourage.
