The Board of Commissioners of the City of Anthony, Kansas met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. with Finance Commissioner Tedder presiding and the following Commissioners present: Hall, Hammersmith, and Dickey. Absent: Mayor Muse. Also present were Donald F. Heidrick , City Clerk Administrator; John Blevins, Chief of Police; Amber Schmitz of the Anthony Republican; and Shawn Catlin of the Harper County Herald
Pastor Mike McAbee of the Assembly of God gave the invocation.
Commissioner Tedder made the motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Hammersmith. Motion carried.
APPROPRIATION ORDINANCE
Claim Ordinance #5623 making appropriation for $93,023.70 for the payments of certain claims against the City of Anthony for appropriation ordinance was presented and on a motion by Commissioner Dickey, seconded by Commissioner Hammersmith, said ordinance was unanimously approved and claims ordered paid.
CHIEF OF POLICE REPORT/INFANT DEATH/
UNATTENDED DEATH – 500 BLOCK OF NORTH LINCOLN/
HARASSMENT CASE/INDECENT LIBERTIES/JUSTICE BATTERY
Chief Blevins reported they are investigating the death of an infant over the weekend. Preliminary results indicate no foul play involved.
Investigated an unattended death in the 500 Block of N. Lincoln. Natural causes.
Investigated a stalking/telephone harassment complaint and charges have been filed.
Investigated an Aggravated Indecent Liberties with a Child Case.
The back portion of the old Justice Battery Building was to be taken down by today. Officer Hodson will check with the City Attorney since Mr. McVea has left town and Major Weiss has taken over.
CITY CLERK/ADMINISTRATOR REPORT/YEAR END TRANSFER/MEETING CHANGE
City Clerk/Administrator Heidrick reported he had made a year end transfer to Municipal Equipment and Capital Improvement Funds.
He reminded the Commission of the change to two meetings a month; the first and third Monday’s of each month. The first Monday meeting will be at 6:00 p.m. and the second Monday meeting will be at 8:30 a.m.
PUBLIC HEARING FOR AMENDING THE 2009 BUDGET
Acting Mayor Tedder opened the Public Hearing for Amending the 2009 Budget at 9:00 a.m. After brief discussion and no public comment about the items that needed to be amended for the 2009 Budget, Commissioner Dickey made the motion to amend the 2009 Budget as proposed. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Hall. Motion carried.
Acting Mayor Tedder made the motion that the City Commission meeting be adjourned. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Hammersmith. Motion carried.
