City of Anthony Kansas

Current City Projects

The City of Anthony and the Anthony City Commission is currently active in many projects designed to increase the quality of life for the Citizens of Anthony. Below is some brief information on a few of those current projects:

$8.9 Million Dollar Water Project with a Water Treatment Plant

In June of 2010, the City of Anthony was awarded a $4,998,000 USDA Rural Development Loan and $3,902,00 USDA Rural Development Grant, totaling $8,900,000, to fund Anthony Water System Improvements. The improvements include the construction of a water treatment plant, rehabilitation of the City's five wells, a new 1.5 million gallon ground water storage tank, rehabilitation of the City's elevated water storage tank, replacement of the main water line to the wells, replacement of some in-town water lines, automated water meters, and other water system improvements - all to improve the quality of the drinking water to the City of Anthony's residents and water customers. The entire water project is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.

Airport Improvement Project - Reconstruct Current Runway

If you take a drive out to the City's Airport (located two miles west of Anthony on Hwy-2), you will notice that work is being done at the Municipal Airport. Currently, the City is renovating the current runway by replacing the worn out asphalt with concrete. 90% of the $1,846,000 project is being paid for by the FAA Airport Improvement Program Grant, 5% through the Kansas Airport Improvement Program Grant through the Kansas Department of Transportation's Division of Aviation, with the City covering the remaining 5%, or $92,300. The project is expected to be completed by May of 2013.  Other recent improvements at the Airport include new concrete near the hangars, new concrete parking, apron, and taxi areas, and a new refueling station that accepts credit cards.

Kansas Airport Improvement Project (KDOT) - Runway Extension to 5,000'

The City of Anthony is pleased to announce that it has been awarded two Kansas Airport Improvement Program (KAIP) grants through the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) for the extension of the City's current runway. The City's current runway is 3,600 feet in length. These two grants are for the acquiring of land to do the extension and the design of the runway for the extension to extend the runway to 5,000 feet in length, which is an extension of 1,400 feet.

The competition for the KAIP funds was fierce. KDOT's Division of Aviation reviewed 148 applications representing $61 million dollars in total project costs. The two City grants for the extension of the runway were two of the forty-six total projects selected to be funded for 2014. KDOT will reimburse the City 90% up to a maximum of $99,000.00 for land acquisition and 95% up to a maximum of $57,000.00 for the runway design.

Creation of an Anthony Lake Plan

The City of Anthony is currently working on an Anthony Lake Plan for the benefits of all the residents who enjoy and appreciate the Anthony Lake. The plan will include the designation of public parks and public fishing areas around the Lake, zoning and platting of the Lake, and a plan for future projects and improvements of the Lake.
