Welcome to Anthony Lake - There is something for everyone to enjoy in the great outdoors. This includes playground equipment, sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, shelter houses, amphitheater/bandstand, a sandy beach designated swimming area, a concrete walking path, and restroom and showerhouse (a new modern replacement planned for 2027).

Boating - There is a boat ramp located near Campground A. Boating fees are by the day or annually. The south end of the lake allows for motor boats, skiing, and jet skis. The northern end is a no wake zone for a slower pace. The lake is also perfect for pontoon boats, kayaks, and canoes. There is a kayak rental service near Campground B. Boat permits are required. See additional details below.

Camping - Visitors can reserve online defined camping spots with 50 amp hookups. An RV waste dump station is nearby. Shared picnic tables, water hydrants, and fire rings are located throughout the camping sites. Primitive camping is also available for tent campers. See additional details below.

Recreation

- A Gun Club supplies the sportsman with trap, skeet, pistol and rifle ranges. Membership required.

- The Southern Kansas Bow Hunter Club Range offers several organized shoots per year. Registration required.

- A rolling nine-hole golf course overlooks the west side of the lake and dam. The par 36 course, boasting 5,000 square feet of greens, challenges golfers year around. Call 620-842-5965 for more information.

- A dog park is located on the south side of the maintenance building. Dogs can be off leash when inside the fenced area. Please pick up our dog’s waste and properly dispose of it.

- Fishing is a popular activity at the lake and it is stocked with a variety of fish. Kansas fishing license requirements are applicable. See additional details below.

- Walking trails meander throughout Campgrounds A & B, as well as south of the lake and all the way to town. The trail is concrete with lighting and benches.

- A free public disc golf course offers exercise and fun for all.

History

The Anthony Municipal Lake project was started in the fall of 1934 as a joint state and city government project. The state of Kansas furnished $80,000 and the city of Anthony $24,000. It is located just one (1) mile northwest of Anthony. The lake was completed in May of 1935 and filled to overflowing with the first rain shortly after its completion. The project was known as the Spring Creek Reservoir and Waterworks Improvement. Originally, 10,000 trees were planted. The new lake was picturesque, as well as a source of enjoyment and recreational pleasure to Anthony residents and people from surrounding towns and communities. It quickly became a weekend attraction for camping enthusiasts. It had city leased shoreline cabin sites; however, most were eventually sold and are now privately owned. The lake retained all public camping and recreational areas for public use.

Rules

• Camp at your own risk – the management assumes no responsibility for property loss or damage.
• Quiet hours must be observed by everyone. Quiet hours are between the hours of 11 pm and 6 am. Be respectful of all campers on the grounds.
• This is a family park and profanity will not be tolerated.
• Alcohol may be consumed at your site only. No one will be permitted to walk off of a site with any container of alcohol. Abuse of alcoholic beverages is prohibited.
• Vandalism or other unseemly or rowdy behavior shall not be permitted and may result in removal from the campground. There will be no refunds.
• Keep your campsite in a clean and safe condition. Garbage is the responsibility of the camper. Dumpsters are provided.
• Campfires are permitted to be at a minimum fire level and must be extinguished before retiring for the night. No fires when posted. Fires must be contained in metal fire rings/fire pits.
• No live wooded vegetation or other live plants shall be cut, disturbed or removed from the area.
• Pets must be kept on a leash and quiet at all times. There is a fenced public dog park at the south end of the city maintenance building. Do not leave pets unattended. Clean up after your pet.
• Boat permits required.
• Children shall be supervised responsibly. Do not leave your children unattended anywhere in the park. You are responsible for the behavior of your children and any children in your group.
• Minors must be on their site and under direct supervision by 11 pm.
• Bike riding is permitted during daylight hours only. No riding after dark.
• Children under 17 must wear a helmet while riding anything with wheels.
• Obey the rules or lose your campsite. Management reserves the right to remove persons from premises for failure to comply with park rules and regulation.
